Lorenz equations

The BFN algorithm has been tested on Lorenz' chaotic system [79]:

$\displaystyle \left\{\begin{array}{l} \displaystyle \frac{dx}{dt} = 10(y-x),\\ ...
...\\ [0.25cm] \displaystyle \frac{dz}{dt} = -\frac{8}{3}z+xy. \end{array} \right.$ (3.13)

The Lorenz attractor is a nonlinear three-dimensional structure corresponding to the long-term behaviour of a chaotic flow, noted for its butterfly shape. Several numerical experiments, convergence results, and comparisons with the standard variational data assimilation method are presented in [21].
