On a Class of Partial Differential Equations Associated with Interacting TCP Flows
(joint work with David Mc Donald)

Abstract :

This presentation will review various dynamical interaction
models allowing one to analyze the throughputs obtained by a
large collection of long or short lived TCP flows sharing a
collection of links/routers.

We will first study the case of a single link with active queue
management. This leads to transport type PDEs which allow one
to determine in closed form the stationary distribution of the
stationary throughputs obtained by the flows.

We will then study the droptail case, which can be described
geometrically as a billiards. We will show that the short lived
flow case may lead to some turbulence type phenomena.

In the multi-link/router case, the dimension of this billiards
is the number of flow classes and there are as many reflection
facets as there are routers/links.
